Well sometimes, regarding spiritual realities, we tell ourselves that the less we know, the better off we are, believing that very great knowledge would needlessly torment our soul or force us to undertake important projects in our lives. But life shows us, and the Lord Jesus Christ warns us otherwise.
Let us note right away to avoid any ambiguity, a fundamental question arises about the source of the information on which we trust, God condemns the supposed revelations made by the soothsayers, not only because they are not clearly proven, but above all because they do not carry his authority. For let us note, they exercise on a foundation opposed to God, defending causes opposed to God; because their supposed revelations are only bait to lead you towards iniquitous cults, or to disturb you by avoiding you looking towards Christ, Truth, Deliverance and Life. The rest of the article will now focus on all the interest, and even the imperative necessity which is ours to constantly drink from the Lord. So, we will be taught and protected from chilling tragedies and traps in which we might find ourselves due to our ignorance.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper. For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken. What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not. For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till* he come. Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another. And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.
The two preceding biblical extracts seem to us to be quite illustrative of the drama to which we are exposed due to our ignorance. The first passage (announced by the prophet) is in fact applicable to all the misfortunes to which we are victims due to our ignorance. As for the second, it reveals a particular case of misfortune incurred by anyone who has not discerned the body and blood of the Lord, whether he was aware of the risk taken or not.
My brothers and sisters, we live in a world subject to implacable natural laws, but even more numerous and powerful spiritual laws. If you accidentally put your hand on a hot surface, would the heat spare you because of your ignorance? Certainly not my dear ones, you will be coldly burned. If you walk on the railway tracks and don't hear the train whistling in the distance to warn you, would you then be excused? Certainly not, you would probably be suddenly shifted to the beyond.
God's responsibility is not to annul spiritual laws when they present themselves to his child, no! Far from there! On the other hand, his fatherly Love leads him to warn us well in advance of the dangers incurred by leading a life of laziness (Book of Proverbs), by misunderstanding the subject of prayer (In Matthew 26, the apostle Peter learned that the hard way), by tolerating sin in our life (“Be not deceived…”, the Apostle Paul constantly warns us for our salvation:1 Corinthians 6:9 ; 15:33 Galatians 6:7).
It is obvious that confronting the Truth in general will lead us to a more intense discipline: close communion with the Spirit of God to better and better manifest the life of Christ by making better use of all that he puts in our hands: redeem more time, let the Lord always and continually be Lord of our finances, work as hard as God will give us the strength, invest as much as necessary our natural talents and spiritual gifts in the cause of the Kingdom of God.
My brother, my sister, our responsibility is twofold: to sit constantly at the feet of the Lord to receive his teaching and obey it in all circumstances with the indispensable assistance of His blessed Holy Spirit. Secondly, to pray fervently for those we love so that the Lord opens their eyes, that they may access Salvation, and if they already are saved, that they may become aware of biblical truths that they are ignorant of and the non-application of which could cause them great harm; my brothers and sisters, there is no greater love than to do our best so that those who love “might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”
