I am nothing,
I am nothing,
I am nothing.
This is not a word of modesty,
This is not a pose of humility,
It is a reality,
It is the truth,
This is as true as You, Eternal One, are God,
I saw it with my own eyes,
I experienced it in all its facets,
I am nothing.
I am reduced to utterly disarticulated and scattered bones,
I am reduced to desiccated and lifeless bones,
I have seen and been convinced that I am nothing, absolutely nothing.
There is nothing I can claim,
There is no virtue I can assert,
There is no skill I can boast of,
There is no merit I can present,
I am nothing, I am nothing.
In my immense weakness,
In my boundless helplessness,
You preserved within me a glimmer of goodwill,
And to it I clung,
Praying to You, whispering to You to fly to my aid,
Impling You to act, not by drawing anything from me, for I had nothing within me,
But simply because of Your Name, simply because of Your Grace, simply because of Your Goodness.
What is the Good News?
The Good News…
It is that the Most Holy God,
He who alone is able to gather the bones,
He who alone is able to refresh them and give them new life,
He who alone is able to rebuild a solidly assembled skeleton,
Have chosen to be on my side. (Ezekiel 37:4-5)
What does the Good News say?
The Good News…
It is that He who alone can cover such a skeleton with flesh and muscles so skillfully woven,
He who alone can intertwine sinews within it, restoring them to their full and complete function,
He who alone can, in the end, envelop it all in a perfectly smooth skin,
Have sovereignly chosen to have compassion on me. (Ezekiel 37:6)
This is the Good News,
The Good News…
It is that He who alone is Life,
He who from God received the living and quickening Holy Spirit, (Acts 2:33 ; 1 Corinthians 15:45)
Have chosen to breathe into my nostrils, giving me back Life. (Ezekiel 37:9; Genesis 2:7; John 20:22)
What a Wonder, what Grace, what Love,
Undeserved love, desperate salvation, Your goodness and wisdom confound me and leave me speechless,
When tomorrow seemed hopeless and without end, You then revealed Yourself as my Way,
Yes, indeed, You are the only way, Yes, indeed, You lower the high mountains and exalt the deep valleys… just for the salvation of those You have chosen to rescue,
Even from the most infernal precipice,
Even from the deepest darkness,
You hear the barely audible sigh of one who no longer has the strength to cry out,
You are good, Everlasting God, You are good, Everlasting God.
My prayer is not to merit Your Grace,
I will not suddenly become competent in myself,
On the contrary, my prayer is to let this Grace unfold fully,
My Prayer, Lord Jesus Christ, is to let this Life continually saturate my entire being.
Yes, may Your Spirit forever fill my bones, O Most Holy Father God,
Yes, may Your Holy Spirit forever fill my flesh, O Lord Jesus Christ,
Yes, may Your Holy Spirit forever envelop me with His Presence, O Father of spirits.
Behold, again I submit my spirit to You, a chamber of intimacy and communication with Your Spirit within me,
Behold, again I consecrate my soul to You, the point of transformation and renewal of my being and my self,
Behold, again I consecrate my body to You, the instrument of contact and exchange with this world and my fellow human beings.
I am happy, Everlasting, Most Holy God.
I am happy, Lord Jesus Christ.
May I seize each passing day the opportunity You give me to reiterate my thanksgiving and profound gratitude.
May I strive anew, with each sunrise, to seek Your face more earnestly,
To seek that which would please my Beloved, that which would delight the Lord of Grace,
To seek that which would please His Spirit within me, He who alone searcheth the deep things of God.
I embark on the perpetual quest of my life, the unchanging purpose of my existence: To gladden the heart of the King of kings.
In Christ Jesus!
